overall freakonomics was a very interesting read. i really enjoyed how the author had a fresh and unique look at certain social and economic issues. the chapter comparing teachers to sumo wrestlers by their method of cheating was interesting and did raise some questions. perhaps one of the most interesting things in the book for me, was how he talked about the death penalty, and how you are more likely to die as a drug dealer on the street then you are to die on death row, so really that is not a huge deterrent to crime. while i am not sure i agree, i do think it is an interesting point. another very interesting point was how a name factors into the development of a child, and if it is a factor or an indicator of a persons success in life. while i did enjoy this book, i felt at sometimes the author resorted to a little smoke and mirrors to get everything to work out just right. oh well, that is probably the engineer in me talking. if you haven't read it yet, check it out. i give it 3 fish out of 5.
once you have finished reading the book, you might want to check out the author's blog
