This is a view when you enter the church at Notre Dame University. Our Family took us there to check it out. While it is an incredibly beautiful church, One has to wonder what Jesus would think if He walked in it today....

book review: freakanomics

overall freakonomics was a very interesting read. i really enjoyed how the author had a fresh and unique look at certain social and economic issues. the chapter comparing teachers to sumo wrestlers by their method of cheating was interesting and did raise some questions. perhaps one of the most interesting things in the book for me, was how he talked about the death penalty, and how you are more likely to die as a drug dealer on the street then you are to die on death row, so really that is not a huge deterrent to crime. while i am not sure i agree, i do think it is an interesting point. another very interesting point was how a name factors into the development of a child, and if it is a factor or an indicator of a persons success in life. while i did enjoy this book, i felt at sometimes the author resorted to a little smoke and mirrors to get everything to work out just right. oh well, that is probably the engineer in me talking. if you haven't read it yet, check it out. i give it 3 fish out of 5.

once you have finished reading the book, you might want to check out the author's blog

Calimax the anit-tourist trap

my favorite place to go visit in other countries is the grocery store. a grocery store is polar opposite of a tourist trap. almost anywhere in the world there are grocery stores. wherever you are, when you go into a grocery store you can see real people, real food, some things you recognize, and some thing with you cannot identify at all. the one constant about all people is that wherever you go, all humans like to eat. a tourist trap is a place that is setup to get tourist to come and live out their travel fantasies, and in passing seperate them from their dollars. when you walk into a grocery store, you are confronted with seeing real people in real situations and real food. i love being able to share a moment with people who are going about their daily lives, and get a window into what other people experience on a day to day basis. and besides, you never know what you will see down the next isle.
today we visited calimax in tecate mexico. here are their ads

remember then next time you go on vacation, stop by a grocery store, and get a true taste of life.
